J's Two Month Well Visit

J had his two month well visit with the pediatrician today. I am happy to report that, in general, J seems to be doing great.

He now weighs 11 pounds, 15 ounces - just one ounce shy of 12 pounds! He is two pounds heavier than Gigi was at two months. He is 21.5 inches long with a head circumference of 15 inches.

His weight is in the 50th percentile, height 25% and head 10%.

He received his first round of immunizations today as well. He received 3 injections and one oral. This was new for me - apparently the oral one was added about 2.5 years ago, so Gigi missed that one. My poor baby cried, but it was nothing a little comfort nursing couldn't cure!

Developmentally he is doing excellent. He holds himself up well while on his tummy and even lifts up his little butt and rocks a bit. He smiles and coos a lot and "talks" to you when you talk to him. He even laughs! He is beginning to grab at his toys and pull them into his mouth. His favorite toy these days seems to be the bear we got him for Christmas. That's his little buddy!

On the not so great side of things, he is showing signs of eczema on his face and body. For now the pediatrician has said to just keep him lotioned up as much as possible and continue washing all his things with a dye and perfume free detergent. If it gets bad enough there is cream for eczema but it contains a steroid so we want to try to avoid that.

He also tends to favor one side with his head movement. He tends to lean his head to the right. When sitting or lying, his head always seems to fall to the right. The pediatrician has diagnosed this as "congenital torticollis". Torticollis is when there is muscle in the neck that is too short and needs to be stretched out. She actually said she doesn't think he even has true torticollis, just a preference for one side - but for the sake of notes in his chart she is calling it that. So now several times a day I need to gently turn his head to the left and hold it there for 30 seconds. I also need to put all toys on his left side when playing with him to encourage him to turn his head. If this has not improved by his 4 month check up we will be going to physical therapy.

His pupils are still two different sizes. She checked his eyes again, and again, found no signs of cataracts or lazy eye and said his retina looks perfectly healthy. She also said that the enlarged pupil in the right eye and his head tilting to the right is purely coincidental. She still believes that he simply has one pupil larger than the other, which is called anisocoria, with no complications connected to it.

So apart from some minor skin issues and a lack of desire to turn his head left, he is doing great!
