Tonight is Earth Hour! From 8:30 - 9:30 we will be turning out our lights. I hope you will too!

Pump it Up
Today we went to "Pump it Up", an inflatable play place. It is filed with inflatables to slide on and jump in. This was our first time going there.
On Friday morning's they have "Preschool Open Play". The best part is, you pay per child but parents join in the fun for free!!
So for $8 Gigi, hubby and myself got 1.5 hours of playtime - with hubby and I alternating of course because of J. Not a bad deal in my book!
To be honest, I'm not sure who had more fun, her or us! Let me tell you - I think it counts as exercise too!
We will definitely be going back in the future!

Green Beans for Baby!
Today we gave J his first taste of vegetables! We pureed some green beans in our "Magic Bullet" (I've really grown to love this thing!).
He very much enjoyed every bite!
He will eat this for another 3 days at least before we move on to something else.

Unexpected Travels
Have you ever wanted just jump in your car and drive...anywhere - just to get away? Well, that's what we did this weekend!
Saturday started off fairly uneventful. Went around to a couple of garage sales, didn't see anything good. We then went to my Mom's where we hung out for a bit. It was getting pretty late into the afternoon and I was getting hungry. My mom suggested we go out for lunch. Great! I love eating out!
So, I get the kids buckled in the van and hubby and mom jump in. As I begin pulling out of the driveway, the dreaded restaurant choosing conversation begins. It goes a little something like this;
"So where do you want to go eat?"
"Not sure. What are you in the mood for?"
"Doesn't matter to me. What about you?"
"I can't think right now, too hungry. You decide!"
And so it usually continues that way until we decide to pull into the first place we pass because we are just starving now.
Well, this time it was different. I'm not exactly sure how it happened, but the decision was made to go....
to Miami!
So off we drove. We got there just in time for a late dinner. We ate at "Bubba Gump's"; A seafood restaurant made after the "Forrest Gump" movie.
We took along "Bayside" where there are any shops to look at. There was this awesome Banyan tree there that is 100 years old. It is so beautiful - it's a shame that people have written on it and thrown garbage into the trunk. Still a beautiful tree.
We got a room at a Hilton across the street and crashed for the night, well after checking out the views and the soft pillows first!
The next morning we went to the beach. The weather was gorgeous, even if it wasn't truly "beach weather". The sky was blue and the sun was shining bright.
The water was cold, but hubby and Gigi didn't seem to mind. They played in it together a little, until Gigi finally was too cold.
So then we just walked along the shore picking up seashells and inspecting the many, poor dead jellyfish along the way.
We got home Sunday night and went straight to bed.

Sitting Up!
My little man is trying to sit up on his own now! He is so proud of himself when he does and is all smiles.
He doesn't last more than a couple of minutes, but he sure tries!!

My New Interest in Diapers
Remember the mountain of diapers I got a killer deal on last week??? Well, while I was thrilled at finding such a good deal on a necessity, staring at my newly acquired heap brought thoughts of filling landfills into my mind.
Several of my goals for this year are steps toward becoming a "greener" me and in turn, teaching such a way of life to my children. Using canvas bags instead of plastic at the store, growing our own vegetables etc. So what was I doing with this mass of disposable diapers which according to some researchers, will take up to 500 years to decompose in a landfill????
Well, I had no choice in the matter, right? These were a necessity, not a luxury. My baby needs them, right? Wrong.
Enter my good friend, Heather. She has now formally introduced me to the world of cloth diapering. I say formally introducing because I had heard of cloth diapering before. Heck, I actually had J in a pinned cloth diaper a few times when he was only a month old.
But, it was difficult. I had no idea what I was doing. I did not know how to fold it or pin it and worst of all...what was I gonna do when he pooped in it??? In short, it just wasn't for me.
On the other end of the spectrum, Heather has been cloth diapering her youngest (who is 5 week older than J) since he was out of the newborn size.
While were there for a playdate she showed me the cloth diapers she uses and gave me some tips on how to use and launder them. I never knew there were sooo many different kinds! And you don't need to use pins either! And it's super easy to wash them! Who knew?
Anyway, to encourage me she gave me a dozen pre-folds, a cover and a snappi to try. I must say - I love it! Honestly, I have yet to use them at night or when I go out. I've only used them at home so far but hey, baby steps right?
On top of it all she let me know about Rita's Rump Pockets. A free pattern for sewing your own cloth pocket diapers! So, I downloaded the pattern, found this great tutorial on how to make them, grabbed one of J's old receiving blankets and set to work.
Here's what I came out with.
Now, this would still technically need a cover, but I had it on him and he peed in it and never wet his clothes. I'm going to experiment with different fabrics including PUL and fleece so maybe I won't need a cover. We'll see!

Gigi's Bird House
Remember that book Gigi and I read the other day about seeds? Well, there was an activity in there that the main character, Buddy did that intrigued Gigi.
We were out at the dollar store and Gigi spotted some small wooden bird houses. She became very excited as she pointed them out to me saying. "look mama - for the birds just like Buddy Bear!"
So, of course I bought one!
When we got home she immediately wanted to decorate her little bird house. Since her daddy was home, he went out on the lanai with her to help.
They painted it and then glued on some dry red beans, black beans and peas to decorate.
It came out very cute! And she was so proud! Now we just need to find a place to hang it!

Seeds, Seeds, Seeds!
Today Gigi and I read a couple of books about seeds and plants.
Gigi really liked the "Seeds, seeds, seeds" book.
When we finished reading, she planted some marigold seeds in her own little pot. She did everything on her own. I basically just watched.
When she finished with that, she wanted to do a project that was mentioned in one of the books. So, we did! She planted a couple of red beans in a small glass jar. We pushed the beans against the glass so we could see them. This way we will be able to see them grow through all their
stages.
I'll keep you updated on this.

More Gardening and Sparkling
Well, the garden area has been all prepped and was just waiting for some plants to move in.
I had some tomato plants and bean plants that were ready to be transferred so in they went. The others are not quite ready yet so I'll give them the time they need. We've done tomatoes before, but never beans, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Gigi wanted to go "sparkling" again. So I just put J in the swing while she played.
Oh, she also went hunting for more worms but came out empty handed. She did manage to make "worm hill" (named by her) so they could live there when they came back. Who says only boys play in dirt??

Those Touchable Toes!
So J has desperately been trying to grab on to his toes for some time now. Well, on Friday, he managed to get them!
Apparently that was not enough though. Once he was able to get a grasp on them, he then proceeded to try and bring them up to his face.
Well, today he managed that as well. And once they were close enough....into his mouth went all the little toes!
He really liked that - kept him amused for quite some time! Is that cute or what??

Gardening and Sparkling
The weather is beginning to warm up and some of my little seedlings are starting to grow.
So, I thought this would be a good time for hubby to get our little garden area prepped.
My poor little garden bed so overgrown it was like a mini jungle!!
In addition to clearing out the box we used last time, we also decided to clear out more space this year to try to grow some more things.
So, hubby had to rip out all the existing grass and weeds, till the soil and add some bagged compost to help it out.
It was a lot of work - especially since he did it all basically by hand - no power tools of any kind!
There were many discoveries to be made in that overgrown mess. Hubby found a snake living there.
Gigi found a couple of earthworms. I told her that those worms were good for our garden and that I wanted them to live there. Unfortunately she wanted to "play" with them. She picked them up and carried them around in the yard until she "lost" them somewhere. Poor little worms!
After all of that "adventure" and hard work, my two busy bees decided to cool off by going "sparkling", Gigi's way of saying "sprinkle".
