This month's project was "Let's paint a tree". First, all the kids sat down to hear a story, "Ten red apples". Gigi had never heard this story before so she was pretty attentive. When the story was over, the woman conducting the class talked about different types of trees and explained to the kids that they were going to be making a tree.
The teacher, Miss Suzie gave every kid a box of crayons and a large sheet of white paper with the word "tree" on the top. She taped a piece of the same paper to the board at the front of the room. Then, step by step, she demonstrated how the kids were supposed to make their trees.
First they drew the dirt that the tree grew from with a brown crayon. Then, they drew the trunk and "squiggles to show texture on the trunk. After this they had to draw branches. When they were down with the crayons, it was time to paint.
Each child was given a sponge a little bit of green paint. They then had to dab the paint on the branches to create the tree's leaves. When the leaves dried, they then had to use a red crayon to draw ten red apples on their trees, just like in the story.
Gigi did awesome making her tree! When it came time to draw the apples, she didn't quite feel the need to draw ten of them. I didn't make an issue of it. She had done such a good job on the tree and was so proud of her work. I think her tree is quite impressive for a 3 year old! I am bias though!
